Take These Steps To Be A Successful Blogger

Throughout my five years as a full-time blogger, I’ve noticed a few things that I feel make new bloggers more likely to succeed, and today I wanted to tell you them so you can make sure to start on the right foot.

A self-hosted blog & your own domain.

The biggest mistake I see new bloggers make is not having a self-hosted blog and their own domain name.

I know a lot of new bloggers (myself included) rather start on a free blogging platform like Blogger.com, or Wordpress.com, or even Wix.com, but the issue is your website will end in yourwebsite.blogger.com or something like that which

  • It makes it harder for people to find you because your website likely won’t appear at the top of Google Searches.

  • It gives you less control over the design of your website.

  • It gives you less control over the safety of your website.

  • It gives you fewer options for tracking your website views & metrics.

Many people don’t want to invest in a blog because they don’t know if blogging will be profitable. So they want to try it for free first, but trying it for free first might actually be the reason it doesn’t see the success you want.

I’ve got a free step-by-step guide that will show you how to start a self-hosted blog with your own domain name included for $2.95/mo. It’s how I started my blog that now earns multiple six-figures a year. You can read that free step-by-step guide here.

Do you want to start your own money-making blog?

I know I just mentioned my free step-by-step guide but I also created a free step-by-step course that will show you how to get started the right way.

I highly suggest you jump into blogging now! It is so much easier to start a blog right now because in the fall and winter people spend more time at home using social media.

When people are on social media more, they are more likely to see your blog.

I know starting a blog can be overwhelming; it seems like there is so much you need to know, and how are you supposed to know how to set everything up and make sure you are getting the best deal on starting a blog?

Also, how are you supposed to know how to design your blog and get traffic?

I kept getting questions from friends and people who wanted to start their blogs

So I figured the best way to answer all these questions would be to create a FREE ( did I mention it’s free?) 6 Day email course.

Which will teach you step-by-step how to set up a blog, install your theme, make a logo, and create monetized content. It will completely kick-start your blogging success.

I suggest taking it if you don’t already have a blog (or if you do already have a blog and want the advice) because I want to help you get your dream job. Here is a more detailed guide of what we go over in it!

  • Day 1: How to choose a name, and blog topics.

  • Day 2: How to start a blog & install the design of your choice.

  • Day 3: Planning out your content.

  • Day 4: Monetizing your website as a beginner.

  • Day 5: Increasing your website's traffic to make more money.

  • Day 6: Wrap up & Guide to follow for the future to maximize profit

A Hidden Identity

Another thing I see often and even felt, in the beginning, myself is wanting to start a blog while hiding my identity.

The issue with remaining anonymous is your readers can’t connect to you as easily. When your reader doesn’t connect with you, they aren’t going to buy from your affiliate links or trust your perspective, which means less income and repeat visitors.

It’s so much easier to connect with someone when they intertwine their personal story and photos into their posts. When you remain anonymous and don’t share photos, it makes it much harder for people to really connect with you.

There are a few exceptions to this. For example, it is also easy for people to connect with you if you come up with an alias and still share stories and photos that don’t reveal your identity. That gives people something to connect with.

The second exception would be to start a podcast with an alias and share the episodes on your blog with accompanying blog posts. This would give your audience the ability to connect with your voice and stories without the reliance on photos and sharing too much of your personal life.

For people to engage with and trust your content, they need to know you.

Don’t wait to invest until your already struggling.

The final thing I want to warn new bloggers about is don’t wait to invest in blogging courses, or coaches until you’re already struggling and not seeing results.

As someone who made that mistake, I now realize had I just invested in a blogging course or coach I could have saved myself a lot of wasted trial and error.

If you want to know how to write better blog posts, grow your social media, or monetize your content, don’t wait until you’ve tried and failed over and over as I did if you have the means to invest in help, so you don’t waste time.

Just a few things to consider

I know this blog post was relatively short, but if you enjoyed it and want to know more things to avoid as a new or struggling blogger, let me know, and I’ll make this a series because I can already think of a few more things I just don’t want to be overwhelming.

I hope you have a great week! I’ll be back next week with more blogging tips!
